Shut down commands in oracle Dba let us see  types of shutdown commands and  their action in database

Shut Commands:

- SHUTDOWN or SHUT NORMAL;
- SHUTDOWN or SHUT IMMEDIATE;
- SHUTDOWN or SHUT TRANSACTIONAL;
- SHUTDOWN or SHUT ABORT;

  1)SHUT NORMAL or SHUT

   - This commands won't allow the new connection

  - It's wait for all user logged off

  - The database files are closed properly and Instance is shut down  

2)SHUT IMMEDIATE or SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE

  - This command also won't allow new connections

  - It's rollback the uncommitted transactions

  - It's disconnect  all current users and wont wait for users logged off  

3)SHUT TRANSACTIONAL or SHUTDOWN TRANSACTIONAL

  - This command also won't allow new connections

  - It's waiting for user are allowed to complete that is, either commit or terminate before shutdown  

4)SHUT ABORT or SHUTDOWN ABORT

  - All current client SQL statements are immediately terminated.

  - Uncommitted transactions are not rolled back

  - All user are disconnected immediately

  - It's like a power off  and very  harmful to database try to avoid these commands
