Crosscheck:

-the CROSSCHECK command to synchronize the physical reality of backups and copies with their logical records in the RMAN repository.

-Crosscheck validates all specified backups and copies, even if they were created in previous database incarnations.

Status of Crosscheck results:

-After connecting to the target database and recovery catalog (if you use one), run CROSSCHECK commands as needed to verify the status and availability of backups known to RMAN

1)Expired- The backup piece or backup set not find

 

2)Available- The backup piece or backup set can be used to restore

 

Note: crosscheck command won't delete the "expired" status backup pieces or set but it ll updates their repository records to EXPIRED.

 

 To crosscheck disk image copies only:

RMAN> CROSSCHECK COPY;    # crosschecks only disk copies of

                    # database files

 

To crosscheck backup sets only:

 

RMAN> CROSSCHECK COPY;    # crosschecks only disk copies of

                    # database files

 

 

Overall  CrossCheck backup on tape and disk:

 

RMAN> crosscheck backup;

 

In tape:

 

RMAN> crosscheck backup device type sbt;

 

In disk:


RMAN> crosscheck backup device type disk;

 

we can crosscheck against the backup set or backup piece which stored in tape with the date range

 

In tape backup crosscheck with date range:

To examine a backup set and report whether it can be restored

To verify the status of backups and copies recorded in the RMAN repository against media such as disk or tape

To find out block corruption and it validates the backup(backup piece which is specified backup piece) looks to checksum verify the contents can be successfully restored if necessary.

To check (available and expired) status of backupset and backup piece
