Why Should Colleges Conduct Value-Added Course

It is the student’s caliber and skill set which make them a good entrant in the job industry. Colleges/universities play an important role in shaping up students to meet the industry standards. The usual/routine skill sets which students acquire from the general course work is no longer going to make them stand out of others. Moreover, the syllabus which many colleges and universities adapt is way too outdated and most of the technologies taught are not being leveraged in the industry as it is primitive. There a study which states that the employability rate of Indian students mainly freshers/passouts has reduced drastically. We can’t say it in a point blank that students are solely responsible for their pathetic skill sets and standards. There is a flaw in universities and colleges which make them unemployable.

Colleges and universities can avert this and make their students prominent and ace professionals by acting wisely. They can take initiative in upgrading the skills of their students by conducting value-added courses. Value-added courses includes right from the interpersonal skills, spoken English to technical training such as conducting IT courses or department-specific courses.

Universities and colleges should seek consultants and industry experts to organize various value-added courses. They should be aware of current job market and major openings and train their students accordingly. In a general note, value-added courses like interpersonal skills, aptitude are to be taught to everyone, courses like Java, Oracle and other IT courses are to be taught to students hailing from IT/Computer Science Departments, and for MBA graduates various analytics tools like SAS and SPSS. It is high time for students to demand their colleges to organize these kind of value-added course and make themselves a good entrant.
